Off The Beaten Path

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

My Kitty Cat

he is also a climber

Purdy is a baby, he really never grew up.....although he is seven. I suppose it is because he was taken away from his Momma before it was time, so he displays many of the habits they do when this happens. Like kneading me with his paws, and lying on me and tucking his head into the curve of my arm or hand. He likes to have his face buried into me. I think he is trying to recreate that feeling of being tucked up next to his Mom. Anyway, he acts a lot like a dog in the respect that he follows me from room to room. When I take a bath, I have to be careful not to step on him when I get out of the tub, and he sits at my feet whenever he can. Not necessarily a kitty habit. There have been several times that he would actually reach into the bathtub with his paw and swirl the water around, then he pulls out his paw and licks off the water. If he only did this one time, I would not be so entertained, but he has been known to sit by the tub and do this the whole time I am bathing......soap bubbles and all. I have often wondered how they taste...yuk. We have mean cats in the neighborhood, and because Purdy is not very aggressive, he usually comes out the worst in any cat fight. He has been injured badly three times in the last year, once bitten through the back, once a hind foot, and once a front paw. Each time with terrible swelling and much pain. So he has gotten to the point he doesn't venture out as he once did, back in the days when we didn't have so many mean cats in the neighborhood. This morning I was awakened to the sound of pitiful kitty meows and I looked out the window to see my cat dangling from the porch, hanging onto the screen for dear life. He had gotten out through the break in the screen, which isn't hard to do, and dropped to the ground, but returning by that same means is not easy. Unless he has learned to pole vault. I do not know how he got where he was, but he was dangling about 8 feet off the ground. I jumped out of bed and ran outside in nothing but a birthday suit and rescued him from falling by grabbing him by the scruff of the neck the way a momma cat would pick up her young. I didn't realize until after my recovery mission that I could hear voices coming from the yard next door. I didn't stop to look and see if anyone was looking at me, I darted back into the house with my poor Purdy Kitty. I will deal with the snickering later.

Nea

Forget the snickering. You rescued your pet, that's the main thing. Lovely photo.

haha, yeh, but it makes me realize just what an exhibitionist i really am. I gave no thought at all to who was outside. Now I am afraid to go back out there for fear I will run into who ever it was. haha

I will always have a cat. I got my first cat when I was about 8 and have had a long procession of kitty cat pets. I have only had one dog, and he died, and I won't get another. But I will always have a cat, they keep my feet warm at night. haha My Mother is not fond of pets either......

I had to laugh Nea - the thought of you running outside naked - I bet the neighbours were a little shocked! :) Love the picture.

Hi Akela, I am pretty sure they thought they were in a nightmare..haha. It isn't like me at all, I do NOT like to draw attention to myself. I didn't even think, until I was safely carrying my kitty back into the house, and then I realized I was "el fresco". I don't really know if anyone saw me, I heard voices out there but with the amount of trees and bushes, I couldn't see anyone, but then, they were across the yard, and I am not sure where they were looking....I also didn't have my glasses on.....anyway, I haven't left the house since........

It was much like when you child is screaming and you don't even think, you just do......my cat is like one of my kids. I worry about him almost as much as I do them. And he was crying like you can't imagine, I just bolted without even thinking. Of course i am the kind who runs around with very little clothes on in the summer also, and in truth, I didn't even realize until i was on my way back in, my state of undress......my memory is shot I guess.....oh well too late now.

I lost my other blog to spammers.

Way to take one for the cat ...

As for the water thing, one of my cats insists on swirling the water in the water bowl, which ultimately gets water all over the place. It's an instinctual thing ...

hello dorky Dad........welcome. I knew that name sounded familiar, as soon as I saw the picture, I remembered where I had seen the name before...... :):) Purdy also likes to play in the toilet, I have to keep the lid down, because when he gets done playing in the toilet, he always comes right up on my bed...and leaves wet tracks across my pillow. which makes me change my bedding......the thought isn't something I care to think about. so I have learned to just keep the lid down and the door shut. He had TWO cat waterers.......and still he would rather drink from the toilet. YUK>>>>

Oh Catch, it is funny, but I was mortified...I couldn't believe I did that. And most of the time there would be NO ONE out there. But just my luck someone was in the back yard next door. If it is Pat it won't be so bad, but if Jim was out there, well....I am going to feel pretty silly for quite some time.

Hey! I posted a comment here yesterday! "So they call her the streak. [Look-a-dat! Look-a-dat!] The fastest thing on two feet. [Look-a-dat! Look-a-dat!]"

Been outside yet?

haha....I remember that song....

I went out today, got in the car, left, came back and went back in the house. I am still feeling kind of silly. I will eventually have to go next door and ask my neighbor is she saw a bare butt next door, and if so, did she recognize who it was, and if she says no, I will tell her to keep her eye out for strangers running naked in the neighborhood. haha

Naked Nea, the furry feline's friend. What an image!
Nice meditation on your cat. I am mainly a dog person, but our last cat meant a lot to me. His mother was a rescued, pregnant stray. She has 6 kits and I kept him (the large ginger tom) and found homes for the others. Mum up and left when they were just 6 weeks old. So I had him "from new" until his death at 18 years and did not realise just how much he was part of my life until I buried him in the garden.
RIP Becket (named after the famous "Tom" - Thomas a Becket, the martyred Archbishop of Canterbury in the middle ages)

Hi Avus, last night I had to rescue him out of a tree. I heard the fight start, I ran out, (this time clothed) haha, and found him hanging pitifully from a tree. I called and called, and it is funny, they can get up, but they sure do have a hard time getting down. I guess he didn't realize how far he had gone up......he is such a little scardy cat. I don't know what I am going to do with all these feral cats that are trying to hurt him.

They have talked about Socialized Health Care here in the States, but the Dr.'s aren't going to let that happen, they make to much money. Medical care is a big issue here. Often people go to India and other places for treatment since it is 400% cheaper there.

An interesting image. Lovely story. Cats - funny critturs.

HI Lee, my cat is a real personality...haha......but then don't all people think that about their pets.

i guess no one saw me bare "footin" across the porch.......my neighbor said she didn't see me.
