Off The Beaten Path

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

Dew on the Rose

Several years ago I planted roses in the front yard. That was before I realized that roses really don't like the humidity in Georgia. They were beautiful for the first year before the powdery mildew, black spot, yellow spot, brown spot and rust got them. I found you had to spray for something every week, bugs, mildew, rust, and they needed more water and fertilizer and attention than I cared to give. So the roses have long since turned to spindly sticks with few flowers. But I have a picture of two of them back in their glory days.

I had the same problem here, I had some yellow ones growing around the door arch, the green fly started to attack my visitors, no matter how much I sprayed them ( the flies not the visitors), so they had to go. But they are beautiful.

Pretty!

Reality kind of destroys that feel good saying, "Bloom where you're planted", doesn't it? But in this case it reinforces the "Live fast, die young and leave a gorgeous corpse", philosophy.

my friend, even if it was just one rose that bloomed in the long run that is one rose that did the impossible really since it's not there enviroment.

the fact that you have a few and still they come, saids alot about struggle and overcoming the impossible.

Hi elween, southern humitiy is generally very warm, and a breeding ground for fungus of many varieties, all of which roses hate. So you spend much time spraying for various types of spots. all the fungus' make the leaves drop and distort the rose buds. then there are the bugs who like to dine on roses, so then you must use bug sprays. I am just not the type of person who likes poisons, so roses don't do well for me.

hi Queenie, I had a bit of a chuckle about you "spraying" your visitors. I knew what you meant.........haha

I once wrote, I hung wall paper with my husband. And someone responded, didn't that hurt, did he complain.....It took me a while to figure out what they were getting at.. It sounded right to me. haha

Hi Quilly, that is what they did, lived fast and died young. They are still trying to survive, even though my husband mows them level with the grass now. I told him it was okay, but I am beginning to feel sorry for them trying to survive, so if they are still there by spring, I am going to dig them and move them out into the back yard and just let them alone. if they live they live, if they die they die.

Hi akela, roses like dry heat, lots of deep watering and they are heavy feeders. all of which are hard for me now, especially since I can't water........

Thank you Louisiana, grandma used to say about the green thumb theory, "lots of manure", she didn't mean the theory, she meant to put on the plants. haha

How are you doing. Love to you too.....do you prefer to be called Louisiana now, I was wondering if Chana was "related" to a certain someone, and best forgotten and not used now? Just let me know......okay........hugs...

Hi Bill, I love wild roses also, and they actually do much better here than the domestic ones, they seem to be resistant to disease.

I was trying to think how I met Sharon,......I am not the type of person who finds it easy to approach people. so as you notice I have few friends on facebook......so I was trying to think how I ended up with any.....and I think Sharon, Richie and maybe one or two others came my way through you......and I think that came about through the kitty cat group I started. I looked in there one day and I had seven members, so I wrote each a note and asked if they wanted to be friends. One of them was Dawn.......a few days later I had a person named Sharon send me an application called Catbook, for my cat and she had the same last name as Dawn, so I wrote her and asked if they were related and she said Dawn was her Aunt. So inadvertently they did find me through you, via of the group I started called, "Cats think they are better than dogs" because you joined the cat group, and they must have seen the group from your site, or that is what I am thinking. I have not actually send any invitations to anyone to join the stuff that I join. Or at least I don't think I have, Facebook is vast and I still don't really understand how each thing works, I often make mistakes in there and send things two or three times not realizing that I am doing that. And then sometimes it won't work at all for me. Chana was the person who got me started at facebook, and then I am sure you know, she left. Personal problems. I sure miss her there......but I understand her need to leave for now.

Anyway, I don't mean to be "harvesting" your friends, but it is such a intermeshing of links and groups i suppose it does happen if people have like interests.

Hi Elween, yes me too organic as I can get, but that is why my roses didn't make it.....I think if you see beautiful roses here, you know someone is working overtime to keep them that way.

Hi Nea

I am glad my friends are becoming your friends on facebook. It is making it more personal. Someday you will have to come to Calgary to visit my friends.

Hi Bill, you have nice friends....:):) But of course you would because you are a very nice person. I don't go out of the house that much anymore, only travel to family these days, and I don't work outside the house, so my social life is mainly here on facebook. I have more friends here than in my "face to face" life. I am very close to the woman next door, we have become good friends, but other than that....I stay pretty much here in the house and on the computer. I have eight friends on facebook now, and that might be all I ever have, :):) They are all very, very nice, Dawn and I both love flowers and pictures of flowers, so I enjoy looking at her pictures a lot, and of course, she loves cats also. I think most of the people that I know, I know through kitty cats. haha (and you) So thak you for sharing your friends. I would love to visit Calgary one day. My Mom has been there, to the Calgary Stampede. My Mom was a horse woman......I have to find a picture of her in her cowboy gear, including chaps.......it is a hoot.
