Off The Beaten Path

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

A New Phone is Like a Box of Chocolates

That is why I always poked a hole in the bottoms and checked before I took a bite......cheating maybe, making a mess of a good box of chocolates, maybe.....but at least there are few surprises. I also go to the back of a book and read the ending before I buy a book, if I don't like the ending, I don't read the book. I guess you might say I don't really like surprises. Oh, I don't mind a Christmas gift surprise, or a cracker jack box surprise, but life altering surprises I prefer to leave alone. So buying a new phone was a big decision for me. I had used the last one for over two years. I can't begin to imagine the amount of innovative changes that have taken place in the last two years. But regardless my apprehensions, I went ahead and got a new phone. This one is a Samsung, it was recommended to me by the sales lady with the words that attract me most, "This phone has the least problems and service calls." The last two days I have been learning how to use my new phone. I have read my book from cover to cover, I had toggled every toggle, pushed every button and changed every setting. Then I made a trip down to ATT to ask some of the questions that were on my mind. While there, I had her hook my new phone up to a machine that would move all of my phone numbers from my old phone into the new phone. Some of the numbers are even still good and active numbers.

I bought a cute little leather phone case so that I could get rid of the sock that I had been carrying it around in. Now all I need is a signal from ATT that my phone is working. It seems that when you "port" one number from one system, in my case Verizon, into another phone system, such as ATT, the number must be released by the old system. Which Verizon has not done yet. So I have two phones that work, kinda. The old phone receives the calls on my number, the new phone just gets a mailbox message. But the good part, right now, I call makes calls from either phone. Although I have a feeling I am still paying for both accounts. Sometime around tomorrow noon, my new phone is supposed to be able to receive calls. (drum roll..............................................well I am waiting...............I don't hear a ring yet).............oh yeh, NOON, TOMORROW.

Hi LIbby, I know, I have been called many things......everyone wonders how a person can enjoy a book if they know the ending. I am just the opposite, I can't enjoy a book, unless I know the ending. I would agree with you that reading a book isn't a life altering experience, except I LIVE the book so to speak, and if the ending is bad, it ruins the better part of a week or more for me. I am the same way with movies. You can believe me when I tell you, I watch very few movies...

Hi Catch, they can be. But you aren't required to use every feature they have to offer. I personally liked my old Audiovox best, it was simple, easy to use and never lost a signat. But it looked like a tank compared to these new "razor" think models. But for me a phone is just a means of communication, they are NOT a fashion accessory.

My phone is a hand-me-down from my son and it's getting a bit battered but it works ok. When son changes his phone I'll get his old one! :)

Is your phone working?

Hi Elween, I like the Samsung, it is a great phone. It takes better pictures than my old one, and it has some really nice features. I am getting used to it. Using a phone for five years is a long time. Most people switch every two years. (I am trying to type with a bandaide on my finger and it is difficult.)

Hi Akela, We could do that now that we are all on Cingular/ATT, but you can't use a Verizon phone on ATT. Ana is due for a new one, then we will all have new ones.

I wish there was someone I could give my old phone to. It is still a great phone, and no longer going to be used. When the battery isn't charged it will soon be dead.

HI Quilly, yep got it working, and Verizon released my number yesterday so now I can receive calls also I have been checking out the new features. My son who is 12 has everything figured out, so if there is something I don't know, I just ask him. Kids, they are so sharp these days.
