Off The Beaten Path

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

SNOW

Since I moved here seven years ago it has snowed twice. Oh, we have had a few snow flakes come down several other times, but actually sticking to the ground type of snow, only twice. Today about 4:30 I saw the first snow flake fall. The neighbor was so excited she came over and banged on my back door, shouting, "it's snowing, it's snowing." I went out on the back porch and shared in her joy. We both love snow.

Nick had a music lesson tonight at 5:00 so we drove down to Cartersville and didn't return home until almost 7:00. By then the snow was coming down in great big flakes that looked like falling leaves. It was sticking to the ground as we came up the hill so I called Ana and asked her to please be extra careful driving, as she has never driven in snowy conditions before this.

We sat around all evening watching the news in hopes that the schools would be taking a snow day tomorrow. So far there are about 10 counties that are closing their schools tomorrow. Cherokee is one, but Bartow doesn't seem to be as yet. But they always wait until just about time for the school buses to roll before they let us know that the schools will be close. Anyway the kids just went to bed with visions of staying home in their heads.

I loved it as a child, and now that I don't see it that often it is wonderful to see once again. But it is all gone now.
