Years ago while visiting my Mom the local church ladies were having a plant sale. The flowers were very reasonable and I wanted to help out the ladies so I bought seven or more plants that I was totally unfamiliar with, Helleborus. Since I had travelled out there on the plane and was unable to bring home a bunch of plants I planted them at my Mom's house in the shade near the back porch under the water faucet. A few years went by and one day Mom wrote me and told me they were in full bloom and lovely, it was December. There aren't many plants that live in the cold and bloom in December, but Helleborus is one of them. They need shade, they need moisture and they love the cold. A perfect plant for a place where nothing much else will grow.
Well Mom dug up some starts and shipped them to me, and I planted them here in Georgia, they seem to like it here also, and they are in bloom right now. So I took a few pictures.
Helleborus are an expensive plant I have found out when I went to buy a few new ones. So getting them for $1.00 a piece from the church ladies was a whopper of a deal. Here are pictures of two different varieties.

They look beautiful and what a bargain. I have left a comment in my box that I hope explains about my mums.
Gorgeous! I don't suppose -- even if they could get through the agriculture screening -- that they'd take well to Hawaii.
Fabulous photographs Nea of a fabulous plant.
Oh I do miss those church sales also known as bazaars - delicious things like those are unknown here!
Nea, you must have a super camera to take close up pictures like these! (my close up pics only produce one big blurrrrr)

I love the pictures. I love the plants. I'll have to check with our local plant place and see if it would survive our winter.
That is an exotic one, nea!
I need a starter for me too. LOL
Happy to see you after my long hiatus.
nea-helleborous sounds like a plant that might live here, but it's probably too cold here...especially since we're getting at least 6 or more inches of snow this weekend!
HI Queenie, they are beautiful if you get up close to look at them, from a distance they aren't really very outstanding....because they are such a soft color..... yes I read your comments and now I understand....
HI Quilly, I am not sure there would be enough cold for them in Hawaii....they love snow.
Thank you Akela, I took a lot of pictures to get these few good one. haha
Hi Ginco, this is a new camera, and I am still learning how to use it, I finally had to come in and read the book to get these close ups, I couldn't get them at first.
HI Dr. John, I know they love cold, and they will bloom right through snow, however, you have extremely cold winters, I would have to check the minus temperatures they can take. It might just a bit too cold there.
HI Jac, I was just over your way, and found you are taking a vacation. haha, Well I have a few posts to finish.....and then I shall wait your return. We blog when we feel like it, hopefully you will fell like it again in the future. :)
In a few years mine will be big enough to take little plants off of, but right now my Helloborus are still to small.
HI Libby, they might do fine there, they like snow. As long as it doesn't get three feet, you know,.haha
