Off The Beaten Path

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

Cleaning Out Nick's Room

My kids are pack rats. They have attachment issues with everything they have ever owned.....so the process of cleaning out Nick's room and moving him to the basement, is a slow one. I gave Nick two baskets, one for things he wants to keep and one for things that we can either toss out or give to Goodwill. I can tell you the basket of things to keep is winning by far. I know for a fact a lot of the things that are in there he will never use. They have been in the back of the closet for a very long time. There is an old saying, "if you have not used something in six months, toss it out, chances are you won't ever use it again." Which pretty much sums up EVERYTHING in that closet. I think I could clean it out and he would not notice anything I tossed, However, I have done that in the past, and there is always one thing that he later wants and I am afraid I might have thrown it out. So this time I am trying to let him do this himself. But I can see it will be a very slow process.

He has lived in this house since he was five. You would think that the possessions of a five year old would not be the same as a 13 year old. But I guess many of the items have fond memories for him. One thing he has always kept is his Dream Catcher. When we were living in Louisiana he was having bad dreams. So David gave him a dream catcher and told him it would catch his bad dreams and make them go away. It worked for Nick, and to this day it hangs above his bed. I told him once that I was having bad dreams and he offered to let me borrow it, he firmly believes in its power.

Belief is often more potent than medicine.

Hi Betty, yes, it will be a keepsake,he will probably always having it hanging in his room, even when he is grown. He is that type of person. :)

Hi Magiceye, welcome to my blog. Glad you liked it, as with all of my poetry it is very personal..and has meaning for me..:)

Hi jac, thank you, that is why I turned the comments off on the poem, it doesn't need comment. It is a personal reflection of past life for me.

Quilly thank you...it worked for Nick. It was amazing, he was having dream nightly, after the dreamcatcher they stopped. Powerful Indian medicine a dream catcher.....:)

I guessed that was why you turned off comments for that one!
What a superb picture, too. I just love those "contre jour" shots.

Hello Avus, so good to see you...I think of you cycling all over on your bike and I get so envious. Especially since I watch a lot of BBC productions with shots of the lovely countryside.....I would just love to be able to go on one of those little trails on a bicycle. Spend the whole day I would.

I have been very nostalgic of late, thus the poetry........:):).
