Off The Beaten Path

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

Kung Fu Panda

Went to the movies this afternoon to see Kung Fu Panda. I think it was very cute and funny. We really enjoyed it. It is the kind of picture that I enjoy, just enough comedy, and the action is without blood. The good guys win and the bad guys lose. Wish it were this way in real life. haha

I got a phone call today from someone from the past. Strange how things keep cropping up from the past. Anyway, DAP called me today. When I first met David he was living with DAP. Poor DAP, he has been taken for a ride from every person he has met in the last three or four years, EXCEPT me. Maybe that is why he called me, I was the only person he met that didn't try to take advantage of him. DAP had been left a trust fund of a rather large amount of money when his parents passed away, (I was told) and so his "friends" circled like a bunch of vultures. He bought things for people who never intended to stay around long enough to even say thank you. I can't begin to tell you all the girls that he bought cars for, took on trips, bought expensive gifts. Not sure why he did it, I think deep down he must have been trying to buy friends. I told him over and over, you are being gullible. But there is only so much you can say to a person before you start sounding like you are telling them no one likes them for THEM, only for what they can get out of them. That kind of truth hurts, so I had to back off. He set one guy up in a business, and I guess that person really took him for a ride. Anyway, from what he was telling me today, he is basically broke. So his next move is to sell his home in Baton Rouge and move to Florida. I asked him to be sure and stay in touch. He gave me his cell phone number and I gave him mine. We were never super close friends, but often he would call me to rant about the things people had done to him, and I would fill him in on anything that might make him feel better. But sometimes people just want someone who will listen. I don't know if he was looking for a loan, help with his move, or just conversation. I told him that I will be going to Louisiana in the near future and I will call him once I get there. Maybe we will drive up through Baton Rouge and visit with him. I like DAP, he never lied to me, nor tried to take advantage of me in any way. What more can you ask for in a friend.

I am sorry DAP wasn't better able to manage his friendships. I hope his future holds more happiness. I am glad he had at least one person -- you -- who wasn't interested in his pocket book.
