Off The Beaten Path

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

Hamburgers

About seven o'clock tonight I finally gave in and barbecued. Everyone was hungry and they were going to begin grumbling, and since I had to cook anyway, it might as well be outside. So I "charged" up the barbecue, pressed out some hamburger patties and trotted off downstairs to barbecue. I don't know why I waited until so late, by the time the charcoal was ready, it was dark. It is really hard to see when a burger is done, in the dark, so I went up and got a flashlight and then sat with my light, my plate and spatula, waiting for the burgers to cook. It only takes about 10 minutes to cook them the way my husband likes them, so it wasn't that long out there swatting mosquitoes. I had to shine the light on the burgers to see if they were done, and you know how bugs like to follow the light.....well, not sure, but I think someone might have gotten a little "free moth meat" with their burger.....

They tasted good! I didn't tell anyone about the moth, my family is so picky about what they eat. haha

Hi akela.......tom was down there holding the flashlight at one point, and he was noting that there sure were a lot of moths flying around......I ommited to mention, one stopped flying and landed...haha

Hi Queenie, for some reason it didn't disgust me....I just picked him off and turned the burger over, so it could cook off the germs......probably somewhere they eat moths.....haha

We are not getting those cool temperatures they had promised us. My daughter owns lots of sweaters and just the other day she was bemoaning the fact it was too hot to wear them. Soon very soon we will be cursing the cold.....haha

Extra protein never hurt anyone. Very impressed with your nocturnal catering with barbecue.

Having been so impressed with the number of public barbecues in Australia (in nearly all the parks) and the ease with which tocook food out in the open, Jane bought e a portable gas fired barbecue for my birthday. Will have to take a leaf out of your book and try some Autumnal evening cookery.

Thanks for the flower.

Hi Pete, you are welcome....I enjoy facebook, some of the application are a bit "silly" maybe, but there are times I really enjoy silly. But I really enjoy the virtual flowers and they never wilt, either......

It is supposed to let you post flowers, but i haven't been able to so far...so I just use what they have..

I have to think that barbecuing would be a bit easier with a little bit of daylight. haha At one point, I tried to raise the grill,(we are talking cheap grill, and you have to manually take it off the rack it is on and put it on a higher one) and couldn't see the little thingys that you set it on and about dumped all my burger in the charcoal....if I had, they would have gotten dusted off......and served. Everyone would have then said, "gee these burgers are sure crunchy"......neither moth wings, nor a little charcoal will kill you....i doubt......

Poor lighting and tomato sauce hides a multitude of sins!

The heat from the barbecue would kill whatever the moth or bug may have. I can only imagine the sight of the Flashlight being aimed at the Barbecue and what the neighbor's thought.

At least it wasn't a June bug- no crunch to give you away when whoever bit into him!

Hi Lee, that is why we always eat by candles.........haha

Hi Bill, that is what I thought, the heat would burn off any residue.......my neighbor gets in her "jammies" about 7:00 and is sound asleep by 8:00, she misses all the fun......

Hi Cindy, a June bug I would definintely remove. They are huge here. They must like the humidity......makes em big......ohhhhhhh I can't imagine eating a june bug.....yuk, haha
