Off The Beaten Path

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

Halloween

Well the big day has finally gotten here, Halloween. We have our pumpkins to carve, our candy to put in a bowl, and Nicki to dress. He is going as the grim reaper so we can decorate his face just as gruesome as we want to. We usually color it green and black.......with just a little bit of red. I really don't know what the grim reaper looks like, so I just use my imagination. I haven't a picture of the kids carving pumpkins from this year, so I hauled out one from a few years ago.

It is popular here, but mostly with the children.....and adults who haven't grown up yet, haha. I for one really am not an admirer of Halloween, but I put up with it for the kids....and do my part. Christmas is my favorite Holiday. Halloween is pagan, and we mostly just enjoy it for the candy, :)

The kids like Halloween here, Nea, but the adults hate it. It has become an excuse for extortion and abuse. If the little devils (literally!) do not get the "treat" they expect you can often get eggs thrown at windows and cars and car paintwork scratched. Many people go out to avoid the callers or turn off all front lights and hide in back rooms - it is such a shame - but that is Britain these days.

(Like the addition of the clock - I got one to keep up!)

It's becoming more popular here in the UK. I wouldn't mind if the kids just came round on 31st but they start at the beginning of October!

No pumpkins carved. No candy- either in bowls or bags. No trick or treaters- we live way out in the sticks and don't have to worry about it. Now if I could just catch that little jerk who keeps siphoning the gas from my car...he'd get a treat.

i thought so. it's a pagan practice. well, just be careful with spiritual warfare. you know all these things are quite interrelated. :)

Hi Avus, they do the same here, the kids, but they don't always wait til halloween, Ana had her car egged one day for now reason. She said she had no idea who would have done it, but you know kids.

HI Queenie, I think I would be glad to have not been born on Halloween, especially as a child......kids would no doubt tease about that. Or they would think it cool, who can tell with kids. huh,

Hi Akela, we had that last year, kids were coming all through the end of Oct. I kept telling them, you kids are confused........but I gave them candy anyway, so they wouldn't toss eggs at my house. With the cost of eggs what they are, it seems such a waste......

HI Libby, well I don't dislike everything about Halloween, I love seeing the little bitty kids all dressed up, they are so darn cute, and as you know I LOVE the candy. And we get a kick out of the pumpkin carving. And it give me a good excuse to use candles........

HI Dr. John, my daughter Ana takes pumpkin carving to an art form. She always has, that is why I have to take pictures......

HI Cindy, that is what I thought, about us, but no, they brought them out by the truck load, Ana said.

You are losing gas....hmmmmmmm I would think it is someone close, who would come all that way to get your gas........might be someone just down the road from you.....who found it easy once, so they are doing it again. Locking gas cap time..........

HI Elween, well my husband is and has been a Catholic from birth and he informs me that Halloween is a celebrating of New Hallow's Eve, and that it is a religious holiday in the Catholic church.....so I guess to each his own. I might be wrong about it being totally pagan. Although we don't celebrate it in any way except the CANDY and pumpkin way.....haha
