Off The Beaten Path

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

Deer in My Woods

We have deer near our home and they come up to the bird feeders and try to eat the corn from the feeders. So today I made a deer feeder. It looks a bit like a manger, with longer legs. It took me about two hours to make it and then I took it out into the woods and put some corn in it that I had bought for feeding the deer. Squirrels eat corn also, but they only eat the white part at the tip, they don't eat the whole kernal. So what the squirrels don't eat, the deer will. I will soon be feeding half of the forest. I have bird feeders, squirrel feeders, and now deer. There are also chipmunks and a few night creatures that eat at the feeders. I fill them about every other day. I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching them eat, and if I go out and sit on the bench quietly they will come right up and eat while I am sitting there. I doubt if the deer will, but we will see.

Tomorrow I will take a picture of my little feeder. I forgot to today. But it was getting close to dark when I finished. The deer feed early in the morning and later in the early evening. So if I get up early maybe I will get to see them eat.

You are one heck of an amazing person. Today I read some blog posts, posted on my blog, did the laundry and wrote a sermon. You made a feeder and then fed half the forest and still probably did all that other stuff -- well, maybe not the sermon, but I have no doubt you COULD.

Hi quilly, oh, I just love working with wood. I always have. When I was in High School I wanted to take wood shop, but they wouldn't let me, they said it was only for the boys. They said, "you only want in there because of the boys." I remember thinking, NO, not hardly. But try and convince them. So I have had to teach myself. It would have been so much easier if I could have taken a few lessons in school. I am a strange woman, I know, I love to go to the hardware store and look at tools.....someday, I want to have a workshop full of wood working tools and then I am going to make things. I made a planter once, and on the inside I made a little house, like a cabin you would find in the woods. It was so cute, someone wanted to buy it when I had a yard sale, so I sold it to them. I figured I could always make another one. I put a shake roof on it, and even a chimney. I wish I had taken a picture of it.

I don't think I could write a sermon, I don't have a the knowledge. I wasn't raised in a church, so I don't have a personal relationship with that kind of thing. It would be like me writing a manual on algebra....haha Or something else that I know nothing about.

But yes, on the laundry thing. haha LOTS of laundry, we are either very clean or very dirty, not sure which....

The deer at our house in Crystal Falls didn't care if you were there or not. They came in to eat the flowers and eat the flowers they did.

sorry I've been away.

We have to drive about an hour and a half to the mountain to see the deer.

But we have an influx of blister beatles, does that count?? lol

The last time we planted peas down back I watched three deer walk into the yard early one morning. They cautiously picked their way to the pea patch and began to nibble away. When they were through they kicked up their heels and bucked their way out of the yard like they knew they had gotten away with something and were absolutely gleeful over it.

Nea ~ You are a very thoughtful person, feeding God's Critters. They will know that they will be safe at your place. I don't know whether to call you Dr Doolittle or Snow White.
