Off The Beaten Path

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

Good Morning Chana, well it is almost 11 now. I was out in the yard awhile this morning.

Iris are easy to grow....they were one of my Grandmother's favorites and I got her love of flowers, so I guess it is only natural that I love Iris. Not everyone realizes they have such a wonderful smell, but they do. I love to bring them inside.

Have a great day!!!!

My Gram's house used to be surrounded by Irises, so seeing them takes me back to carefree, happy days. They are among my favorite flowers -- and they won't grow in Hawaii because the heat and humidity equal a dampness that rots the bulbs -- plus there is not cold spell to "reset" them for spring.

I am not sure why they grow here either, it certainly is humid here, but we do get the cold, so maybe that is what saves them. They seem to do pretty well. But we live on a hill so they get excellant drainage.

If you ever want to try some, let me know, in the fall I can send you a few tubers. You won't be out anything, and if they live, well, you will be the only one in Hawaii with Iris.....
