We got 2 inches of rain since last night. It was a day for cooking. I like to cook when it is cool outside. So I put on a pork roast, potatoes and carrots, and some red cabbage. Not sure what else I will cook, but I have a couple of hours to think about it. I think I will take a coffee break. I have been busy this morning, I cleaned the bird cages. I did a couple loads of laundry, I paid some bills, filed some papers, put some more stuff away (that came from Effie), I went out and re dug the creek that runs across the backyard, it was overflowing across the yard, and now I am ready for a nap. I don't have the stamina I once had, so each afternoon when it is time for a break I usually doze for a bit. It has become a habit, and one that I enjoy.
I won't have to water for a few days, and now I can get my tulip bulbs planted. I had ordered them on Ebay and they came while I was gone. A rain makes the ground easy to dig, so I like to plant after a good rain storm. It is getting close to time to "put the garden to bed" for the year. I always enjoy this time when I can cut back all the old dead and dying stalks on the perennials, and cut off the tops from the bulbs. There are many things still in bloom, but most are gone for the year. And what is left, I usually trim back anyway. I look forward to spring, but right now I am glad for the fall, and a break from constant watering, clipping, deadheading and fertilizing.
Yard work, as with housework, is never done. I mowed the lawn yesterday and it looks so much better. It had been over a month since it was mowed. I can smell my dinner, yummy!!!
Till later, gator......

Couldn't find a way to comment on the entry above this one. We are still thinning out the stuff we brought from Crystal. You accumulate so much but really need so little.
